Zbrush sculpting with a mouse3/28/2024 ![]() ![]() I paint and Zbrush with both and they are both identical in outcome, so I don't know what extra features a FX artist would want from a tablet that supersedes superceeds the needs of someone who sculpts or paints. The Wacom weights heavier and is bulkier. The Wacom chews through tips twice as fast as the H1161. The surface of the Wacom tablet has been scratched endlessly only after 3 years of on and off use and the texture of the center is rough while the sides are smooth, but the H1161 still has a solid smooth surface all around after 4 years. They both have the same pressure sensetivity and tilt. The Wacom intuos pro has no extra features compared to the H1161 ( except for wireless which often has sensible latancy and battery considerations). ![]() Of course it's up to you what you're comfortable with I'm just giving the experience I have and know to be true.Īlso I have owned different Wacom tablets for over 12 years, and a Huion H1161 for 4 years. ![]() to do anything from navigation to node based stuff. I'm also working professionally as an artist and almost everyone, for the majority of their time here use drawing tablets including FX artists, animators, and everyone else for Hudini, Maya, UE. It keeps your hand off of a mouse for the majority of your work and prevents full pronation of a wrist over 8 hours a day. it's both more ergonamic and speedy( to combine a tablet and mouse workflow). And yes, the first time I saw people use drawing tablets just to do everything in Maya in a professional studio, it also came to a surprise to me because I thought those are just for "drawing". Yes you don't "need it" but it improves things ergonamically. ![]() You say "they are not needed just because." but that's not the argument, it is not about it being needed but what's comfortable and professional practice. Thank you for the suggestion though, I appreciate them! Extra features and quality are worth it, and Wacom lasts much longer than Huion. I will probably go for a tablet one day, and even then, it will definitely be Wacom. I think you must have mistaken the scene navigation for me talking about the 3D space, but I am referring to the node system, which is what my software (Houdini) is based around. And a drawing tablet practically serves no purpose. Drawing tablets are good, but they are not needed just because you do 3D. I suggest Huion ( the Inspiroy H1161 or newer models), they cost one third as much as Wacom and are very competitive and often indistinguishable in quality.( I wont suggest older models that came out before the H1161) This could come as a bit awkward at first, but trust me, all professionals do it. Professionally working with a pen will both increase your speed and help with the ergonomic aspect. but all 3D software are designed to work well or better with a drawing tablet's pen if you set your pen button settings as you like, you can be faster with a pen navigating and doing things in your viewport. Drawing tablets are usually best for drawing, sculpting, painting. You specifically need a drawing tablet not a mouse. I had some shoulder pain and one of the very first things I did was to change my desk and the chair and always reminded myself to keep my arm at 90 degrees. Got a nice sit stand desk and a good ergonomic chair and the issues went away. I had this issue when I was younger and had to adjust my setup because I was having my elbow at an angle when using the mouse and keyboard and it really messed up my tendons after prolonged computer usage. You ideally want your elbow at an approximate 90 degrees angle otherwise if you are at a bad angel it can cause issues with your tendons and cause tendonitis which can put pressure on your nerves and cause carpal tunnel. Also keep in mind that posture honestly has a huge impact on how ergonomic a setup will be. That being said the logitech is what I would look at first to see if it works for you. Of possible you would probably want to be hands on with the mice to see how they feel. Honestly as much as companies want to design ergonomic devices it's hard to really design it to fit everyone. ![]()
